Holistic Approach in Medicine

Taking an Holistic Approach in Medicine

At one time or another we, or our loved ones have faced serious health issues that were not resolved by traditional medicine in ways that provided long-term effectiveness.

When we became dissatisfied with the medical solutions given by traditional doctors, we began opening our minds to alternative therapies and in return, found helpful answers that addressed the root issues of our health dilemmas.

Exploring the holistic approach in medicine made so much sense once we started thinking outside the "box". We began to take responsibility for our health education instead of blindly accepting our physician's opinion and approach. For some of us, the journey was long and difficult but answers finally came.

Taking control of your health is challenging and for some of you, the choices you make and your willingness to take responsibility for your own health will mean the difference between life and and death.

The Definition of Holistic Health to Support Your Health Dreams

To begin exploring the holistic approach in medicine, consider the phrase Holistic Health which originates from the word "whole", denoting complete. A comprehensive definition of holistic health is an approach to wellness encompassing the body, mind and spiritual side of an individual. The approach would be like looking at yourself from a "whole" (holistic) point of view in order to understand your mind, body and spirit connection.

Holistic Approach in Medicine: True health is when your body is fit, your mind is emotionally balanced and your spirit is strong and nurtured.

Do You Dream of Being Truly Healthy? Learning about the holistic approach in medicine is a must in your quest for health.

We believe there's hope!

  • For your body - it could be drinking more water, getting more sleep, and taking a walk 3 times a week.

  • For your mind - it could be to start noticing your "self-talk". What are you saying to yourself everyday? If any of it is negative, start replacing that negative "self talk" with positive statements!

  • For your spirit - start each day thinking about what you're thankful for - everyone has something they can thank God for.

  • It could be as simple as, "Thank you for the bed I was able to sleep in last night. Thank you that I am breathing and can get up and walk and care for myself today."

  • Scientists are proving that the thoughts we think seriously affect our body chemistry. We are not saying changes will be made overnight or that being in good health is easy.

While making changes, continue setting small goals to achieve your dream health. Educate yourself on what it means to experience health.

Begin with these few questions, taking an inventory of yourself:

  • Are you willing to at least look at and challenge your current belief system about sickness, disease, health and healing?

  • Are you willing to try natural, alternative approaches to health and take responsibility for your own health and healing?

  • Are you willing to believe that your natural state is health and not disease?

  • Would you consider yourself a "glass half-full or glass half-empty person?"

  • Do you believe that marvelous things can and do happen to you?

  • Do you take time each day to feel grateful for the good things in your life or do you spend time feeling like a victim without even realizing it?

  • Do you believe that God, Infinite Intelligence or the Universe uses positive or only negative experiences to teach you and promote your personal development?

  • How do you feel about the way your body looks and feels? Do you spend more time hating your body than loving it?

  • Do you feel content and at peace most of the time?

  • Do you have faith or hope in a Divine Power, taking time to deepen your spirituality?
  • The answers to these questions will give you a place to start. Use our Dream Book or a spiral notebook to record your answers and begin taking steps toward making changes toward your dreams of health.

One of the pioneers of the holistic approach in medicine is Dr. Richard Schulze: "For me personally, in one word, Health is FREEDOM. Disease and illness rob you of your freedom… and your money. Being healthy feels great, and it gives you the freedom to live your life the way you want, and the ENERGY to do all of the things that you want to do, and the VITALITY to have all of the fun that you want to have, and to really, really enjoy your life, to your fullest potential." The overall concept is to attempt to remedy the underlying cause of health challenges by natural means instead of merely treating symptoms with prescription or other over-the-counter drugs which ignore the root problem of illness.
